Ballavartyn Equestrian Centre August 2020

After the busy restart of competitions at Ballavartyn during July, August again saw riders taking advantage of both the competitions held and training within the facilities.

We started August on Sunday 2nd with showjumping offering both British Show Jumping Association affiliated and unaffiliated classes. The weather was kind so the competition took place in the outdoor arena. Plenty of riders and spectators lead to a jovial atmosphere. It was great to see good entries for the showjumping with riders moving up the heights. We were pleased to welcome some new riders and to see Suzanne Corlett out competing on Alice showing the younger riders how it is done. The affiliated 1.05 class was busy again with Colleen Miller and Milton coming out on top of a very competitive class and Rebecca Baggs taking both second and third with Ellie and Morgan respectively.

We followed the showjumping with dressage on Saturday 15th August. An incredibly busy day saw a fantastic number of entries with tests running from 9am through to 6pm. There were some wonderfully ridden tests with the marks reflecting this. It proved a good day for Ann Atkinson and her ride Ginger taking 1st in a very close Preliminary 15, Millie Duncan riding Click took second but both had a score of 72.8%, Ann and Ginger then went on to take the win in the Novice 23 class. Another close class was the Elementary 40 with Abby Corlett pipping Sue Kirkpatrick by just 0.33%.

To complete our August competitions, we ran an unaffiliated evening show jumping on Tuesday 18th. Sadly, the weather didn’t hold out and everyone got a little damp, as again we ran this in our lovely outdoor arena. We were thrilled to welcome lots of new junior riders who rode some lovely rounds and we can’t wait to see them progress.
